A highly-rated and highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that takes a fresh approach to design and functionality, the Freo X Ultra is a very well-built machine. The $1,400 list price is hard to swallow, but you can find it on sale often enough to make the purchase appealing. The unit looks great, and the base station takes up only a tiny space in the corner of an area.
The design of this robot is able to address a few problems that we've encountered with other robotic vacuum and mop units, such as the brushes getting tangled in hair, and the vacuum brush being unable to reach bare floors underneath furniture. The sweeping performance is impressive on carpets as well as bare flooring. The vacuum/mop unit has an excellent amount of debris removal, and the mop is able to soak up floors that are not soiled.
The mops have a sophisticated system that cleans along the edges of walls, and around furniture. The robot avoids most bulkier obstacles such as toys, food bowls, shoes, and backpacks with any problem. It is able to get tangled or entangled with smaller, more compact objects like shoelaces, USB cables and pens.
We utilized this robot to vacuum and mop a mixture of pile rugs, FLOR carpet tiles, and hardwood floors within an open, large floor plan. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in about 170 minutes that's close to the average for Gen 4.

Miele Scout RX3
Miele isn't a joke in the world of robotic vacuuming and is known for its quality and innovativeness. This new model aims to take that to the next level with high-end features and superior cleaning performance.
The RX3 comes with dual suction, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping and a camera that transmits live images to your smartphone for effortless control. The RX3's powerful four-stage system is excellent for dust collection on carpets and hard floors. Side brushes can be swept out with dual suction channels, and easy-to-use controls keep corners clean. Its 8.5 cm height lets it get under furniture that is low. Front cameras and an infrared sensor aid in navigating barriers, thresholds and obstructions with ease.
In our test of how it cleaned baking soda close to corners and on baseboards, the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its suction power of 2,500Pa was a bit weaker than other robots however, it moved swiftly and was very quiet. It did not mop and its clean pad was a challenge to attach. It also wasn't able to handle dirt that was dried on.
The app doesn't have advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa however its voice controls aren't particularly precise or responsive. It's also a bit flaky when it returns to the charging station after an exercise. Other robots can follow a wall or trace the previous route, but the RX3 is a mess until it finally gives up.
We also experienced issues with the smart features of the device, namely its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a decent job of avoiding our shoes and furniture legs but it could easily be stuck by cables and socks and was unable to handle the tassels of rugs. We didn't include the Scout RX3 on our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price tag and impressive performance it's a Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
